Have you considered how a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) may assist you?
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to grant to a person you know and trust legal authority over your affairs. Matters dealt with under an LPA include finances, property and healthcare decisions.
Kim Neal, Wills and Probate solicitor at Ward Gethin Archer’s Chatteris office said: “there are many advantages to appointing one or more attorneys under an LPA but primarily you will have greater control over what happens should you be unable to look after your own affairs”. Kim continued, “we often think about the possibility of this towards the end of our life but it is important to consider other eventualities such as an accident or an illness which renders you unable to make your own decisions.”
In these circumstances, without an LPA in place, your assets are likely to be frozen which can cause great difficulty. Other routes for someone being appointed to deal with your affairs after you have lost capacity are arduous and costly. Kim added, “I would strongly recommend that anyone over the age of 18 takes advantage of our free advice day and comes and obtains advice about how an LPA may assist them.”
Ward Gethin Archer are also offering advice in relation to Wills. The free advice day is an ideal opportunity to have your questions answered and receive a 10% discount should you decide to proceed with LPAs or a Will.

Sarah commented, “Our joint advice day will enable you to ask questions with regard to any aspect of separation, divorce, arrangements for children, cohabitation agreements, issues for couples who live together and have not entered any formal arrangements as to their relationship as well as help with planning ahead with prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.”
“As with all legal matters”, Sarah continued, “ we strongly recommend that people seek advice as early in the process as they can. Our free advice day will enable you to ask any questions you may have together with the benefits of meeting face to face with a local solicitor.”
